Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico Injured in Shooting
According to media reports, Slovakia’s Prime Minister, Robert Fico, was hit in the stomach after four shots were fired in a shooting incident and was subsequently hospitalized.
The incident occurred outside the House of Culture in the town of Handlova, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of the capital Bratislava, as reported by the news television station TA3.
It has been stated that a suspect has been detained in connection with the incident.
Robert Fitzo's official Facebook page stated that the Prime Minister was taken by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Banská Bystrica, since Bratislava is too far.
"The next few hours will be decisive," the message said.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack on Slovakia’s Prime Minister on his official accounts on social media.
“We strongly condemn this act of violence against our neighboring partner state's head of government. Every effort should be made to ensure that violence does not become the norm in any country, form, or sphere. We sincerely hope Robert Fico recovers soon and express our solidarity with the people of Slovakia,” wrote Zelenskyy.
President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová has also condemned the attack. “I’m shocked,” Caputova said. “I wish Robert Fico a lot of strength in this critical moment and a quick recovery from this attack.”
