Sri Lanka Demands Compensation for Killed and Wounded Citizens Who Served in the Russian Army

A high-level delegation of Sri Lanka had discussions with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Rudenko and the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Colonel General Alexander Fomin. Sri Lankan representatives spoke about compensation for its killed and wounded citizens who served under contract in the Russian army.

Discussions focused on the 17 Sri Lankans killed in action, compensation for the killed and wounded, the situation of uncontactable Sri Lankans, potential voluntary returns, early contract termination, and standardization of remuneration.

During the meeting, Sri Lanka proposed to establish a joint working committee to solve the problems of Sri Lankans serving in the Russian army.

Currently, there are established facts of recruitment into the Russian army of citizens of Nepal, India, Syria, Serbia, and Somalia. The Russian Federation also recruited illegal migrants from the Finnish border who tried to get to the EU through Russia into its army.
