Host Sergey Karnaukhov offered advice to the wives of servicemen involved in Russia’s war against Ukraine, suggesting that in the case of domestic violence, they should “kiss his feet,” “endure,” and not file for divorce.

The statement was made on air during a heated debate between Karnaukhov and his co-host, journalist and founder of the “Women’s Front” foundation, Anastasia Kashevarova, on the Solovyov Live channel.

The debate erupted while discussing the situation of a serviceman who returned home from the “special military operation”.  After being injured, he faced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), began drinking, and became violent toward his wife.

The host, Kashevarova, stated that she was also married to a soldier with PTSD, adding that she “doesn’t divorce or leave him, but it’s very hard.” The show’s co-host, Sergey Karnaukhov, expressed outrage at how the issue was framed.

“How could you leave a man who gave his life for the country?” he asked.

When Kashevarova wondered whether the woman was supposed to kiss the abuser’s feet, Karnaukhov replied: “Yes, kiss his feet, because he gave his life for the homeland.”

On April 8, the Security Service of Ukraine has formally issued new charges against Russian propagandist Olga Skabeeva in absentia, who justifies Russia’s war against Ukraine and calls for the capture of the country.

The term special military operation is a euphemism used by Russia to describe its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. It is used by the Russian government to downplay the aggressive nature of the war.
