Suicide Bomber Reportedly Kills Leader of Russia’s 'Arbat' Battalion, Armen Sarkisyan, in Moscow Explosion

A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in a residential complex in Moscow, killing Armen Sarkisyan, the leader of the Russian 'Arbat' Battalion and head of the Boxing Federation of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). According to reports from Russian Telegram channels, on February 4, the bomber perished in the explosion.
Preliminary findings indicate that the explosive device was attached to the suicide bomber, who activated it upon seeing Sarkisyan. The device was reportedly a MON-50 or MON-500 mine. Investigators are working to establish the bomber’s identity, with sources suggesting he may have been an Armenian citizen with a criminal record.
Authorities are exploring two primary motives behind the attack: potential connections to Sarkisyan’s role as the founder of the 'Arbat' battalion and his involvement in the tobacco import business. His activities in the industry reportedly positioned him as one of the major suppliers in Russia.
In addition to Sarkisyan and the bomber, multiple individuals, including residents and a concierge, were injured in the blast. Initial reports suggested the explosive device could have been placed under the ceiling, but further examination confirmed that the bomber was the source of the detonation.
The attack occurred on the morning of February 3 in the ‘Alye Parusa’ residential complex. Initially, authorities reported one fatality at the scene, while Sarkisyan sustained critical injuries. He was transported to a hospital, where he was placed on life support but later succumbed to his injuries.
