US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced that the NATO Alliance will appoint a representative in Kyiv who will be responsible for coordinating the Alliance’s interaction with Ukrainian high-ranking officials.
A new military command, named NATO Security and Training Assistance for Ukraine (NSATU), will be established in Wiesbaden, Germany. Led by a US three-star general, NSATU will oversee training and equipping Ukrainian troops across various allied nations.
This effectively merges the current role of the US-led Ramstein Group under NATO’s umbrella.
President Zelenskyy clarified that NSATU is not intended to replace Ramstein, but rather act as an additional tool.
Secondly, a dedicated NATO representative will be stationed in Kyiv to facilitate direct communication and coordination with Ukrainian high-ranking officials.
These measures underscore NATO’s long-term commitment to supporting Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. As Sullivan emphasized, “Putin cannot divide us. He cannot survive us. He cannot weaken us. And Ukraine, not Russia, will win.”
Earlier, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg outlined five key components that will “constitute a bridge to membership”.
