Sweden has announced a new defense aid package worth 4.8 billion kronor (approximately $447 million) to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities, according to a government press release on May 26.

Approved on May 22 as part of Sweden’s 19th aid package to Ukraine, the funding will be channeled through the Swedish Armed Forces to support various multilateral initiatives.

“This support will make Ukraine’s Armed Forces and defense industry stronger in resisting Russia,” said Defense Minister Pål Jonson.

Of the total, 100 million kronor (approx. $9.3 million) will be directed toward demining efforts, including the purchase of mine detectors, vehicles, and protective equipment. Another 300 million kronor (approx. $27.9 million) will go to support the drone coalition by supplying various types of UAVs.

The maritime security coalition will receive 50 million kronor (approx. $4.7 million) to train Ukrainian naval personnel, while 30 million kronor (approx. $2.8 million) is earmarked for developing Ukraine’s IT security and command systems, including the Delta battlefield management platform.

A separate 1 billion kronor (approx. $93 million) will be used under the Danish model to purchase weapons directly from Ukraine’s defense industry. Additionally, 418 million kronor (approx. $38.9 million) will go toward enhancing Ukraine’s ground combat capabilities, including the delivery of armored vehicles.

Sweden will also contribute 550 million kronor (approx. $51.2 million) to the Czech-led ammunition procurement initiative and 546 million kronor (approx. $50.8 million) to a similar effort led by Estonia.

Another 1 billion kronor (approx. $93 million) is allocated for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and acquiring long-range drones.

Previously, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed that Ukraine is now allowed to use Western-supplied long-range weapons against military targets inside Russia.
