Toretsk in Donetsk Region Left in Ruins as Russian Forces Advance into Destroyed Territories

As of October 14, there are no intact buildings or shelters left for civilians or military personnel in Toretsk, Donetsk region. Russian forces began occupying new areas, according to Anastasia Bobovnikova, a spokesperson for the Operational Tactical Group Luhansk on a national TV, Ukrainian outlet NV reported on October 15.

She explained that the complete devastation of the city has enabled Russian troops to advance into new areas, though these territories have already been reduced to “scorched earth.”

“The enemy continues to assault our positions, and there are no undamaged buildings left in Toretsk. The city now resembles a deserted planet—there are no shelters for civilians or the military, and this unfortunately enables the enemy to occupy new areas, though it’s on scorched ground,” said Bobovnikova.

She also noted that Russian soldiers are disguising themselves in civilian clothes to get closer to Ukrainian positions, a tactic typical of their operations in urban areas, particularly near Chasiv Yar.

According to Bobovnikova, Russian forces are suffering significant losses in Toretsk, but their military leadership continues to buy loyalty of their troops for money.

“Heavy fighting is going on literally for every apartment block, for every street. We see that the eastern and southeastern parts of the city are currently occupied by the enemy. However, active combat is ongoing for the rest of the city, and we are holding the line,” Bobovnikova added.

Earlier, Head of Toretsk Military Administration reported that Ukrainian army holds 40-50% of the city, fighting for every street and building.
