Russian forces are making attempts to capture the eastern Ukrainian city of Toretsk, Donetsk region, where approximately 40-50% of the territory remains under Ukrainian control, said Vasyl Chynchyk, head of the Toretsk Military Administration on a national TV, reported Ukrainian news outlet Espreso on October 11.

Chynchyk said that Russian forces had failed to advance in the past 24 hours.

“Our military made everything to ensure that the enemy did not gain ground. As of yesterday, there were no recorded advances or captures of any residential or critical infrastructure buildings,” he stated.

Chynchyk added that Russian forces are intensifying their efforts to fully seize the city, which remains a key target.

“Around 40-50% of Toretsk is still under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, while the rest is occupied by the enemy. The Russians are trying their hardest to take the entire city as quickly as possible, but our forces are providing a strong defense and holding their positions.”

Chynchyk also noted that the evacuation of civilians from Toretsk is ongoing, although significant challenges remain.

“We are doing everything we can. Unfortunately, today, those people who are left, — about 1,150 people — they leave with at least their identity documents. Yesterday, we were able to evacuate seven people, with assistance from National Police officers and Armed Forces” he explained.

Russian forces are relentlessly assaulting the Ukrainian city of Toretsk, aiming to capture one of the last strongholds Ukraine holds in the Donetsk region. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to defend their positions, repelling Russian offensives despite constant artillery, drone, and guided bomb strikes.
