US President Donald Trump claimed that many aspects of a peace deal to end Russia’s war against Ukraine have already been settled with Vladimir Putin, according to a statement he posted on Truth Social on March 18.

Trump revealed that he is set to have a phone call with Putin later in the morning on March 18 to continue discussions.

“Many elements of the final agreement have been agreed upon, but much work remains to be done. Thousands of young soldiers and others are dying,” Trump wrote, without specifying details of the purported deal.

He also stated that 2,500 soldiers from both sides are dying each week, though he provided no source for this figure.

“I look forward to my phone conversation with President Putin,” Trump added.

Speaking to reporters at the Kennedy Center on March 17, Trump justified his involvement in negotiations, saying:

“The only reason I am involved—and this is Russia and Ukraine, but also a lot of people—is humanity. I am involved for humanity.”

Referring to Ukraine’s role in the process, he stated:

“We had to get Ukraine to do the right thing. It was not an easy situation. You got to see a little glimpse in the Oval Office, but I think they are doing the right thing right now, and we are trying to get a peace agreement done.”

Earlier, Trump stated that he had a conversation with Putin and urged him to “save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers” who are allegedly “completely surrounded by the Russian military.”

According to Trump, there is a “very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end.”
