U.S. President Donald Trump currently has no plans to sign a resource agreement with Ukraine, The Telegraph reported on March 5, citing U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Earlier reports suggested that Trump intended to finalize a “rare earth minerals” deal on Tuesday evening and announce it during his address to Congress shortly after 9:00 PM local time.

However, Bessent clarified that “no signing is planned.”

White House insiders also stated that there had been “no movement” on the agreement.

Earlier, during Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington, the signing of a U.S.-Ukraine rare earth minerals agreement was canceled.

Trump wrote on Truth Social on March 2 that securing American business interests in Ukraine would deter Russian aggression. He argued that U.S. mining operations in Ukraine would force Russia to avoid escalation, as an attack would endanger American lives.

Trump also suggested that without U.S. support, Zelenskyy would have “no choice but to concede” to Russia.
