Trump's Truth Social Statement: US Mining Deals in Ukraine Will Block Future Russian Aggression

U.S. President Donald Trump said in a statement on Truth Social on March 2 that his approach to Ukraine involved securing American business interests in the country as a means of deterring Russian aggression.
“By negotiating a mineral deal, Trump ensures that Americans will be involved in Ukraine’s mining industry,” he wrote. “This prevents Russia from launching an invasion, because attacking Ukraine would mean endangering American lives—something that would force the US to respond.”
Trump also suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would have “no choice but to concede” if US support were withdrawn, arguing that Ukraine could not sustain a prolonged conflict against Russia without American assistance. He claimed that US mining operations in Ukraine would act as a deterrent against future Russian military action.
Trump framed his strategy as a calculated geopolitical maneuver, stating, “Don’t underestimate Donald Trump. In this game of chess, he’s 10 moves ahead of everyone.”
His comments come as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosts Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders at the “Securing Our Future” Summit in London on March 2.
