European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, speaking after the Securing Our Future Summit in London on March 2, stressed the need for strong security guarantees for Ukraine.

"It's basically turning Ukraine into a steel-porcupine that is indigestible for potential invaders," she said, emphasizing military and economic resilience, energy security, and long-term stability.

She also called for a major increase in European defense spending, announcing plans to present a rearmament strategy at the European Council on March 6. Europe, she warned, must reverse years of underinvestment and prepare for worst-case scenarios.

Von der Leyen reaffirmed transatlantic unity in defending democracy and preventing territorial aggression. She highlighted a broader coalition, including Norway, Turkey, the UK, Canada, and the U.S. working together to strengthen European security.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that the U.S. and NATO allies are strengthening defense, increasing investments, and preparing billions in additional aid and security guarantees for Ukraine.
