Trump Plans to Initiate Ukraine-Russia Peace Talks on First Day in Office, Press Secretary Says
Donald Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump will bring Ukraine and Russia to negotiations on his first day in the White House, reports AP on November 11.
After President-elect Donald Trump was declared the winner of the US election on November 6, his spokesperson stated that he would now be able to "negotiate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine." She later added, "It includes, on day one, bringing Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table to end this war."
Trump has frequently claimed he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine in one day.
Previously, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk remarked on potential upcoming decisions from the United States concerning Russia’s war against Ukraine, including possible ceasefire terms. In response, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that any decisions affecting Ukraine’s future must involve Ukrainian input, underscoring the principle, “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.”
On November 8, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources, that Trump has already started his first round of calls with European leaders, including discussions on negotiations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and acknowledges that he couldn’t push Ukraine into making concessions to Putin without securing something in return.
