US President Donald Trump has pledged support for Poland and the Baltic states if Russia escalates further, responding affirmatively to a White House pool question, DW reported on September 21.

“Yes, I would do it. I would do it,” he said, highlighting Washington’s commitment to NATO allies amid repeated Russian airspace violations.

In recent days, Russian military aircraft and drones have repeatedly entered NATO airspace.

Estonia reported that three Russian MiG-31 fighters entered its airspace over the Gulf of Finland on September 19 for 12 minutes, prompting an emergency UN Security Council meeting scheduled for September 22, according to DW.

Russia denied violating Estonia’s airspace, claiming the aircraft “flew over neutral waters,” DW writes.

Germany scrambled two Eurofighter jets from Rostock-Laage on September 21 to intercept a Russian IL-20M reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea.

After visual identification, Swedish NATO jets took over the escort, and the German aircraft returned safely. The German Air Force confirmed no country’s airspace was breached.

Polish authorities also reported Russian military planes flying low over the Petrobaltic oil platform in the Baltic, violating Poland’s exclusive economic zone but not its territorial borders, DW writes.

Previously, it was reported that British Typhoon jets conducted their first NATO air defense patrol over Poland on September 19 during the night as part of the Eastern Sentry mission, the UK government told Reuters.
