Trump Says Putin Will “Have to Respond” to Ukrainian Strike in “Good” but Uneasy Call

US President Donald Trump confirmed on June 4th that he spoke by phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The conversation focused on Russia’s war against Ukraine, including a recent Ukrainian strike called Operation “Spiderweb,” on Russian strategic bombers, as well as growing concerns over Iran’s nuclear program.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared that the call lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes and described the tone as “a good conversation,” though not one that would lead to immediate peace.
“We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides,” Trump wrote. “It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.”
According to Trump, Putin responded firmly to the airstrike. “Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” he said.

The leaders also discussed Iran’s nuclear program, which Trump said requires urgent attention.
“We also discussed Iran, and the fact that time is running out on Iran’s decision pertaining to nuclear weapons, which must be made quickly!” Trump noted. “I stated to Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement.”
He added that Putin expressed a willingness to engage diplomatically.
“Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion,” Trump shared.
Earlier, a senior NATO official has called the recent Security Service of Ukraine strike on Russian strategic aviation airfields one of the most successful operations carried out by Ukrainian forces to date.
