Two drones briefly entered Polish airspace overnight from September 2 and 3 but were not intercepted, as they posed no threat, the Polish army said on September 4, according to Reuters.

Poland has maintained high alert since a stray Ukrainian missile hit a southern village in 2022, killing two people during the early stages of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

General Maciej Klisz, Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces, said the incidents were “under full control of national forces and units assigned to the state defense system.”

General Wiesław Kukuła, Chief of the General Staff, added that the drones left Polish airspace without causing damage.

Authorities did not disclose the exact entry points of the drones.

The incidents occurred amid a large-scale Russian drone and missile strike across Ukraine, hitting energy and transport infrastructure at 14 sites and injuring four railway workers, Reuters reported.

Previously, it was reported that an unidentified drone crashed and exploded in a cornfield in eastern Poland overnight, raising new concerns about spillover from Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, Polish media Rzeczpospolita reported.

Earlier, anoter unidentified drone was believed to have entered Lithuanian airspace after possibly crossing from Belarus, Lithuanian officials confirmed, according to public broadcaster LRT.
