Ukraine and Russia Complete Ninth Stage of Prisoner Exchange, Over 1,000 Return Home

Ukraine and Russia have completed the ninth stage of prisoner exchanges as part of agreements made during the second round of talks in Istanbul on June 2.

This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on July 23.

"Homecoming for the critically ill and severely wounded defenders. We can now share the details – over 1,000 of our people have been returned during all stages of the recent Istanbul agreements. For thousands of families, this is a joy to reunite with their loved ones," he said.

According to the president, the returning soldiers fought on various fronts across Ukraine.

"A significant number of them were in captivity for more than three years. They will all receive the necessary support and medical assistance. What’s important is that the exchanges continue, and our people are coming home," Zelenskyy added.

Previously on July 23, during talks in Istanbul, Ukrainian and Russian delegations discussed the next stages of prisoner and civilian exchanges. According to Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, the Russian side agreed to return individuals who have been in captivity for over three years, including the seriously wounded and young prisoners.
