During talks in Istanbul, Ukraine proposed to the Russian side the idea of holding a leaders' meeting by the end of August, with Turkish President Erdogan and US President Donald Trump in attendance.

This was reported by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, following the meeting of the delegations on July 23.

The parties also discussed the next stages of prisoner and civilian exchanges. According to Umerov, the Russian side agreed to return individuals who have been in captivity for over three years, including the seriously wounded and young prisoners.

Additionally, the Ukrainian side expressed its readiness for a ceasefire, particularly in regard to strikes on critical and civilian infrastructure.

On July 23, the third round of talks between Ukraine and Russia took place in Istanbul. As with previous meetings, the Ukrainian delegation was led by Rustem Umerov, now serving as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, while the Russian delegation was headed by Putin’s aide, Vladimir Medinsky.

Earlier, Ukraine has brought home another group of defenders from Russian captivity as part of the ongoing large-scale prisoner exchange, held in accordance with the Istanbul agreements.
