Ukraine and Russia Ready for Peace Talks, Says Trump’s Special Envoy
Keith Kellogg, nominated by US President-elect Donald Trump as special envoy for Ukraine, stated during a December 18 interview with Fox News that both Russia and Ukraine could now be open to peace talks.
When asked if the exhaustion of both sides indicates an opportunity for negotiations, Kellogg said, "Yeah. Absolutely. I think both sides are ready."
He compared the situation to a fight nearing its conclusion.
"Think of a cage fight. You've got two fighters and both want to tap out. You need a referee to kind of separate them. And I think President Donald J. Trump can do that. I think he's got a vision to do that. I think he's got the energy to do that. And I think he's actually got both sides are willing to get together eventually and talk," he explained.
He also expressed confidence in President-elect Trump’s ability to mediate a resolution.
"I believe, this year. I think he's got the right capability and ability to do it. So I look forward to it," Kellogg added.
He also mentioned plans for his January trip to Kyiv, stating that details would come from the transition team.
"This shows the energy of the administration, the new administration, and that President Trump has put people in place to get stuff done," Kellogg said.
