The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine criticized Hungary’s “peacekeeping” calls regarding Russia’s war in Ukraine on December 16, calling them detached from reality and urging Hungarian officials to stop manipulating the issue.

"Hungarian officials once again claim that they can stop the war. However, these statements do not reflect reality. In fact, following Hungary's “peacekeeping” calls to Moscow, deadly missiles and drones are striking Ukrainian cities and communities," the Ministry stated.

The statement also noted that Hungary's actual proposals are "even further from peace than its declarations," suggesting that Hungary’s position could leave Ukraine more exposed to Russian aggression.

"We call on Hungary to stop its immoral manipulation of peace and Christmas themes, and to refrain from unilateral contact with the aggressor state, which undermines joint efforts to restore a just peace. The only obstacle to peace is Russia and its war-obsessed dictator. Ukraine seeks peace on its land more than anyone else in the world," the Ministry emphasized.

The Ministry reaffirmed that achieving a just and lasting peace remains the focus of Ukraine and its partners’ efforts.

"Ukraine has always adhered to principles of honest dialogue and mutual respect. We will continue constructive contacts with our partners who sincerely aim to end the war, not to ensure Ukraine’s defeat," it concluded.

Previously, the Office of the Ukrainian President responded to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s claim that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly rejected a proposed Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale prisoner exchange with Russia.
