Ukrainian drone forces have destroyed a critical Russian air defense radar and damaged a Tor-M2 system in coordinated strikes targeting Moscow’s layered air defense network in occupied eastern Ukraine, according to the commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi, on April 1.

He said the strikes took place a day earlier, on March 31.

According to the report, operators from the 414th Separate Brigade carried out the attacks using FP-2 drones, targeting high-value air defense assets in both the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

Footage released by Ukrainian forces shows drones striking a 9S19 Imbir radar system, a key component of the S-300V air defense complex.

The radar is designed to detect ballistic, cruise, and aerodynamic targets at ranges of up to 175 kilometers, making it a critical element in Russia’s ability to track and intercept incoming threats.

Drone footage suggests the system was destroyed, with operators conducting follow-up strikes to confirm the kill.

In a separate strike, Ukrainian drone operators targeted a Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile system in the Donetsk region.

The system was reportedly providing air defense coverage for Russian positions along the front line.

The Tor-M2 is capable of tracking multiple targets simultaneously and engaging a wide range of aerial threats, including drones and cruise missiles, making it one of the primary systems used to counter Ukrainian UAV operations.

The latest strikes are part of a broader campaign to degrade Russian air defense capabilities.

According to Brovdi, Ukrainian drone units struck 41 elements of Russian air defense systems during March 2026 alone.

By targeting radars and mobile missile systems, Ukrainian forces are aiming to weaken Russia’s ability to detect incoming threats and protect key positions, potentially opening the way for further strikes.

Earlier, Ukrainian drone operators destroyed a Buk-M3 surface-to-air missile system, one of the most advanced elements of Russia’s layered air defense network, in a precision strike deep in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region of Ukraine.
