Ukraine Reports Long-Range Drones Reached Perm Region, Hitting Key Chemical Production Site

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) said its long-range drones struck the Metafrax Chemicals plant in Russia’s Perm region.
A facility, Ukraine says, supports explosives production for Russia’s war effort, according to the Kyiv Independent on February 17.
A source in the SBU told the Kyiv Independent the overnight attack between February 16 and 17 was carried out by deep-strike specialists from the SBU’s Alpha unit.
The outlet said the plant produces methanol and other chemicals, including urotropine, urea, and pentaerythritol, which it described as precursors used in weapons-grade explosives.

OSINT media ASTRA identified the target as the Metafrax Chemicals site in the town of Gubakha through open-source analysis and cited local accounts describing explosions and a fire.
Kyiv Independent put Gubakha at around 1,600 kilometers from the nearest Ukrainian-controlled territory and noted the plant was previously targeted in September 2025, when it said Ukraine’s military intelligence agency carried out a strike there.

Russian regional authorities acknowledged a drone incident but provided limited details. Perm Governor Dmitry Makhonin said “a hit by hostile unmanned aerial vehicles was recorded on the territory of Perm Krai,” adding that no one was injured and that emergency services had been alerted.
Earlier, it was reported that explosions and smoke were reported at the Berezniki branch of Azot (Uralchem) in Russia’s Perm Krai, with local accounts pointing to possible drone activity while officials offered limited details.
