Currently, about 1,000 km² of the territory of the Russian Federation is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Today, on August 12, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, where he for the first time directly stated that Ukraine is conducting an operation in the Kursk region of Russia.

During the meeting, Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on Ukraine’s defensive actions at the front and operations in the Kursk region, stating that about 1,000 km² of the territory of the Russian Federation is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“We are grateful to all soldiers and commanders for their steadfastness and decisive actions,” wrote Zelenskyy.

The President also asked the coordination headquarters, the Main Directorate of Intelligence, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to prepare a clear and transparent strategy for the return of the Ukrainian people from Russian captivity.

Zelenskyy additionally instructed the Ministry of Defense and diplomats to present a list of necessary actions needed to obtain permission from allies to use long-range weapons to defend the territory of Ukraine.
