On April 2, The Armed Forces of Ukraine have successfully intercepted a rare Russian reconnaissance drone, the Albatross M5, which is reportedly equipped with advanced neural network capabilities.
According to a statement from the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, this marks the first recorded downing of the Albatross M5 drone.
“For the first time, we are taking down a rare Russian drone, the Albatross M5,” the brigade stated.
Additionally, previous investigations by Ukrainian activists from the “Cyber Resistance” group, in collaboration with the volunteer intelligence community InformNapalm, have linked the development of the drone’s software to the Russian company Kaspersky.
Their findings suggest that Kaspersky’s contributions enabled the drone to be fitted with machine vision technology, allowing for automated target detection, selection, and tracking.
Previously, it was reported that Russian drone operators have begun using homemade munitions containing dangerous chemicals.
