According to Defense Express, Ukraine’s Armed Forces have begun utilizing advanced 155mm artillery shells equipped with ADAM anti-personnel mines to counter Russian “human wave tactics.” These munitions are designed to enhance defensive capabilities against large-scale infantry assaults that rely on overwhelming numbers.

First revealed as part of a US security assistance package last year, these mines are now actively integrated into Ukraine’s military arsenal. The shells, officially designated as M692 and M731, are engineered for remote deployment and contain 36 anti-personnel mines each.

A key distinction between the two models lies in the self-destruction timing of the mines—four hours for the M692 and 48 hours for the M731.

These munitions are compatible with systems such as the American M109 self-propelled artillery unit, offering a firing range of approximately 17.6 kilometers. Upon deployment, the mines are dispersed over a 600-meter area, with an effective radius of up to seven meters for neutralizing enemy infantry.

Notably, OSINT analysts have identified the deployment of these shells by the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade, marking their confirmed operational use.

The US support package also includes other systems for mine deployment, such as the Modular Pack Mine System (M131 MOPMS) and the Volcano system, broadening Ukraine’s range of defensive tools.

Earlier, the United States announced progress in the development of the Extended Range Air-launched Munition (ERAM) program, a cutting-edge missile-bomb system designed to bolster Ukraine’s defense.

The project, initially unveiled in 2024, features advanced guidance technologies like the Quicksink system, enabling precision strikes on maritime targets. With an operational range of 463 kilometers and a production goal of 1,000 units annually by 2026, the ERAM program highlights growing defense collaboration between the US, Ukraine, and other allies.
