Ukraine is now producing approximately 20 Bohdana self-propelled howitzers each month, thanks to the “Danish model”, which enables allies to fund Ukrainian military production. This announcement was made by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his evening address on October 30, following the Ukraine-Nordic Summit.

“We call it the Danish model, which allows attracting finance from our partners in Ukrainian defense production,” Zelenskyy said. “For example, we’re now manufacturing almost 20 “Bohdana” artillery units monthly, with strong progress across other areas. And there’s more to come: shells, equipment, drones – everything we need.”

The 2S22 Bohdana is a 155 mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer designed and manufactured in Ukraine. Mounted on the robust KrAZ-6322 six-wheel-drive truck chassis, this artillery unit has a maximum range of 42 kilometers. Former Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov noted that full-scale production of the Bohdana commenced in January 2023.

On September 14, Denmark announced that it funded the production of 18 Bohdanas, which have already been delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This marked the first time an EU country used funds specifically for purchasing military equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Denmark has been one of the leaders in providing military support for Ukraine, contributing approximately €6.7 billion in military aid to date.
