The broader overnight attack appeared to stretch well beyond the Russian capital.
The Guardian reported that Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed Ukraine launched more than 280 drones at targets across the country, making it one of Kyiv’s largest drone barrages since the start of the full-scale war.
Ukrainska Pravda noted that there was no independent confirmation of the Russian authorities’ claims. The report added that Moscow officials had not provided verifiable evidence of the interceptions or of the full scale of the attack around the city.

The overnight barrage also reinforced concerns inside Russia about the difficulty of defending such a vast territory from drone attacks.
A senior Russian lawmaker acknowledged Moscow cannot build a continuous air-defense shield against Ukrainian deep strikes, arguing the country’s scale leaves the military too thinly spread to cover everything.
He noted commanders are instead prioritizing major cities, regional centers, and critical sites such as power plants, defense factories, and key bridges, rather than attempting blanket protection across the country.
