Ukraine Repatriates 1,245 More Bodies as Istanbul Agreement Concludes

Ukraine has received the remains of an additional 1,245 individuals, identified by the Russian Federation as Ukrainian citizens, including members of the Armed Forces.
The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War confirmed the transfer on Telegram on June 16.
This development marks the final stage of the repatriation process conducted within the framework of the Istanbul agreements. In total, 6,057 bodies have been returned to Ukraine under these arrangements.
The Coordination Headquarters stated that law enforcement agencies, together with forensic experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will carry out the required examinations and identification procedures to determine the identities of the repatriated individuals.

The operation was made possible through the joint efforts of Ukraine’s security and defense sector, including the Coordination Headquarters, the Security Service, the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other relevant institutions.
According to Russian Media outlen Tass on June 16, citing Russian Ministry of Defense, Russia is ready to transfer an additional 2,239 bodies of deceased Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel to the Ukrainian side.
Earlier, Ukraine and Russia have completed their fourth prisoner of war exchange within a single week, repatriating another group of the most vulnerable individuals — including severely wounded, critically ill, and young servicemen.
The exchange was carried out under the terms of the June 2 Istanbul agreement, which provides for the return of all wounded, ill, and military personnel aged 18 to 25. The arrangement prioritizes medical necessity over numerical parity.
