The bodies of 1,200 fallen Ukrainian service members were returned to Ukraine following repatriation efforts carried out on June 13, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

“According to the Russian side, the remains belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel. The repatriation was conducted in line with agreements reached in Istanbul,” the statement said.

Law enforcement investigators, together with forensic experts from the Interior Ministry, will conduct all necessary examinations and work to identify the repatriated remains.

The Coordination Headquarters expressed its gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its support.

Special thanks were extended to the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for transporting the remains to designated state institutions and for organizing the transfer of the fallen to law enforcement authorities and forensic medical experts under the Ministry of Health.

On June 11, Ukraine has recovered the bodies of 1,212 fallen defenders, including those who fought in the east and south of Ukraine, as well as in Russia’s Kursk region.
