Ukraine Recovers Bodies of 1,212 Fallen Soldiers From Frontlines and Russia’s Kursk Region

Ukraine has recovered the bodies of 1,212 fallen defenders, including those who fought in the east and south of Ukraine, as well as in Russia’s Kursk region, according to report of Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on Telegram on June 11.
The return was coordinated by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other national security and defense agencies.
The International Committee of the Red Cross also provided support.

Among the killed defenders whose bodies have been returned to Ukraine are those who died in combat operations across multiple regions. This includes soldiers who were killed in the Kursk region of Russia, as well as in Ukraine’s Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
The bodies will be transferred to law enforcement authorities and forensic experts to confirm identities before being returned to their families.
Earlier, Ukraine and Russia had continued implementing the latest prisoner exchange agreement reached during the second round of negotiations in Istanbul. A group of Ukrainian service members—many of whom are seriously wounded or ill—had been returned home.
