Ukraine Repatriates Bodies of 1,000 Soldiers Returned From Russia for Official Identification

Ukraine has repatriated 1,000 bodies, which Russia claims belong to Ukrainian servicemen, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported on Telegram on September 18.

In the coming days, investigators together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will carry out the necessary examinations and work to identify the repatriated bodies.

The operation was conducted through the joint efforts of the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other structures within the Security and Defense Sector.

The Coordination Headquarters expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance.

Special thanks were also extended to the personnel of the Central Directorate of the Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Joint Center for Civil-Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces, which ensured the transportation of the repatriated remains to designated state institutions and organized their transfer to law enforcement and forensic medical services within the Interior Ministry and Health Ministry systems.

Investigators and MIA experts will now work to establish the identities of the fallen in the shortest possible time.

Earlier, Ukraine repatriated the remains of 1,245 individuals, identified by Russia as Ukrainian citizens, including members of the Armed Forces.
