France is preparing to transfer Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine and has signed a letter of intent to launch joint weapons production on the territories of both countries, officials revealed after talks between French Armed Forces and Veterans Minister Catherine Vautrin and her Ukrainian counterpart Mykhailo Fedorov on February 9.

During the meeting, the two sides focused on accelerating aircraft deliveries and ensuring the Ukrainian military receives record quantities of AASM Hammer precision-guided aerial bombs.

As part of broader efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, Kyiv is also expecting additional shipments of SAMP/T, Mistral, and Crotale systems, along with the necessary ammunition.

Ukrainian officials proposed jointly upgrading the SAMP/T system to improve its ability to counter ballistic missile threats and speeding up production of Aster interceptor missiles.

Long-range strike capabilities were another key topic in the discussions, particularly the potential supply of SCALP cruise missiles.

The talks also highlighted cooperation on next-generation electronic warfare systems and the testing of new security technologies.

Funding for these initiatives is expected to come in part from a European Union credit mechanism and the specialized SAFE defense program, aimed at ensuring sustained long-term defense cooperation between Ukraine and France.

Earlier, reports emerged that France would provide Ukraine with an additional radar for the SAMP/T air defense system.

France is currently working intensively to repair equipment already in service with Ukrainian forces.
