Ukraine Shoots Down 5th Russian Su-25 Warplane This Month

Ukrainian forces shot down another Russian Su-25 attack aircraft near Pokrovsk in Donetsk region on May 22nd, according to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces.

This marks the fifth Su-25 jet Ukraine has downed this month.

The Su-25 is a Soviet-designed armored aircraft providing close air support for Russian troops. It’s been crucial for Russia’s intense attacks along the eastern front, particularly in Donetsk region.

The General Staff’s update offered limited details, stating “Ukrainian troops destroyed a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft.” According to the statement, fighting remains intense in the Pokrovsk sector where the plane was downed.

This latest success follows Ukrainian claims of destroying Su-25s on May 20. The General Staff also reported earlier this month that Russia has lost over 350 aircraft since the full-scale invasion began.
