Ukraine Strikes Major Deal With Diehl Defence to Triple Air Defense Arsenal

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has signed a memorandum of understanding with Diehl Defence, the manufacturer of the IRIS missile family, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced on March 9.
According to Umerov, the agreement paves the way for large-scale industrial projects aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. The memorandum also includes plans to triple the supply of missiles and air defense systems.
“I thank Diehl Defence for their trust and willingness to cooperate. It is crucial that leading global defense companies are stepping up to support Ukraine. The free world stands with us, and together we are unlocking new opportunities to enhance our defense,” Umerov stated.
Ukraine actively uses IRIS-T SLS and SLM systems to protect cities and infrastructure from Russian airborne attacks, making the timely replenishment of munitions a top priority.

In mid-February, Germany confirmed plans to supply Ukraine with around 100 guided missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems in the near future.
On March 2, Ukraine and the United Kingdom also announced the launch of a joint project that will provide Ukraine with 5,000 Lightweight Multirole Missiles and the necessary production technologies. The project is being implemented with support from Thales and is funded through a loan backed by the UK government agency UK Export Finance.
