Ukraine to Finalize US Air Defense Deal as Zelenskyy Warns of Energy Threat

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy chaired a meeting of Ukraine’s Supreme Commander-in-Chief Staff focused largely on energy security and defense coordination amid ongoing Russian attacks, Zelenskyy reported on his Telegram on October 20.
The discussion centered on restoring damaged infrastructure, expanding strategic reserves, and strengthening cooperation with European partners to secure critical energy equipment.
President Zelenskyy emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must take a more proactive role in mobilizing international support for Ukraine’s energy system.

He also outlined efforts to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly to protect energy facilities from Russian airstrikes.
Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will soon finalize the necessary documents for agreements with the United States to purchase additional air defense systems and helicopters.
“It is crucial now to work through every aspect of these potential agreements on paper so that we can accelerate negotiations,” the President said.
President Zelenskyy stressed that scaling Ukraine’s long-range response capabilities remains a priority, both to deter Russian attacks and to safeguard the country’s energy infrastructure.
Previously, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will not “give or forget anything” to Russia, stressing that Kyiv continues to strengthen its defense and energy cooperation with international partners.
