On July 23, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine announced their decision to secure a $3.9 billion grant from the United States through the World Bank, according to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

“Today, the government has decided to attract a $3.9 billion grant from the United States of America. The funds will be channeled through World Bank structures,” Shmyhal stated.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the grant will be allocated to the salaries of rescue workers, teachers, and doctors, as well as various social support programs.

Shmyhal added that the grant is expected to be received in the near future.

Additionally, the European Commission has given a positive assessment for the first regular payment of approximately 4.2 billion euros under the Ukraine Facility program, which aims to support Ukraine’s macro-financial stability and state administration functions.

According to a report released by the World Bank on May 29, 1.8 million Ukrainians are living in poverty compared to 2020.

The report, based on a survey conducted with the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), revealed that 9 million Ukrainians, out of an estimated total population of 32 million, are currently living in poverty.

The World Bank noted that without foreign aid to support pensions and salaries, the circumstances would have been significantly worse.
