Ukraine to Receive SAMP/T Air Defense System from Italy by End of September

The second SAMP/T air defense system, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, will arrive in Ukraine by the end of this month, announced Italy's Defense Minister Guido Crosetto.

On September 16, Italy announced it would send a second Samp-T air defense battery to Ukraine.

"By the end of this month, the new SAMP/T system will be delivered to Ukraine, and we know how much every minute of delay costs," the minister said, according to RAI News.

The Franco-Italian SAMP/T system, also known as MAMBA, can track dozens of targets and intercept 10 simultaneously. It is the only European-made air defense system capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.

The first unit was jointly delivered to Ukraine by Italy and France in 2023, and this would mark the second system.
