Oksana Hryhoriyeva, a public activist and former gender adviser to the Command of Ukraine’s Ground Forces, has been selected for the position.

“Gender equality is a key component of Ukraine’s National Security Strategy and is recognized as part of the country’s sustainable development goals,” the statement reads.

“The implementation of gender policies is also among the requirements for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO.”

Ukraine’s military modernization has accelerated since Russia’s full-scale invasion, with a focus on command reform, NATO integration, and domestic defense production. The armed forces are restructuring leadership and training programs to improve decision-making, logistics, and battlefield coordination. Ukraine is also transitioning to Western weapons while expanding domestic production of drones, missiles, and armored vehicles.

Earlier in December, General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced a comprehensive transformation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, focusing on military training, recruitment and social support, technological advancements, and management processes.
