Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has rejected claims that Kyiv is “90% on board” with a US-proposed peace plan, dismissing the assertion as inaccurate and inconsistent with its role in policymaking.

According to a report by the New York Post, citing a senior official from President Donald Trump’s administration, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov allegedly told US officials that Ukraine supports 90% of the peace framework presented this week in Paris by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

However, in a statement to Sky News, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry clarified that it “does not make political decisions” and therefore could not have provided any such “assessments of percentage.”

The ministry reiterated that Ukraine had supported the US proposal for a full ceasefire as early as March 11. “Russia did not support the US ceasefire proposal and continues daily strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure,” the statement added.

“Under these conditions, it is unclear how anyone could discuss or measure in ‘percentages’ the progress of any dialogue.”

Ukrainian officials emphasized that their primary focus remains on the feasibility and enforcement of any potential ceasefire. “Our key question is how to ensure the ceasefire proposal can work and be reliably monitored,” the ministry said.

Ukraine also reaffirmed its ongoing cooperation with Washington: “We remain in constructive dialogue with our American partners and are fully committed to ending this war.”

Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned that the United States may withdraw from Ukraine peace negotiations if talks stall, stating, “We’re going to just take a pass” should either party prove uncooperative. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this stance, noting that if no progress is made soon, the administration may conclude that further diplomatic efforts are no longer viable.
