Ukraine's Intelligence Warns of Fake Massive Missile Strike Messages in Russian Disinformation Campaign
Messages are circulating via messengers and social media, allegedly on behalf of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence (HUR), warning of an "exceptionally massive" missile and bomb attack on Ukrainian cities on November 20.
HUR called on the public to only trust official sources.
“This message is a fake, containing grammatical errors typical of Russian information-psychological operations,” HUR wrote in an official press release on the website. “We urge you to trust only information from official sources and spokespersons of The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian intelligence press release called not to ignore air raid signals, however, the urged the citizens not to panic.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the disinformation campaign, noting that the threat of attacks from Russia has been a daily reality for Ukrainians for more than 1000 days.
"On this 1,001st day of the full-scale invasion, the threat of Russian shelling remains as relevant as it has been over the past thousand days. We believe it would be appropriate for our partners to respond today just as they have over the previous thousand days, without any additional information-driven escalation," stated the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
The US Embassy in Kyiv has issued a stark warning about a potential large-scale air attack targeting Ukraine on November 20. Out of precaution, the Embassy will be closed for the day.
Similar steps have been taken by the Spanish, Italian, and Greek embassies in Kyiv, with them announcing closures for the day due to the heightened threat of a mass missile strike.
