The World Boxing Council named Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk the 2024 Fighter of the Year on January 6.
"Usyk has consistently demonstrated his exceptional skills outside of Ukraine, showcasing his global impact on the sport," the WBC commented.
In 2024, Usyk became the undisputed heavyweight champion after defeating UK’s Tyson Fury twice, successfully defending his WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO titles.
“These achievements solidify Usyk's legacy as one of the greatest boxers of his generation,” the WBC added.
On December 21, 2024, Oleksandr Usyk emerged victorious in a rematch against UK’s Tyson Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight solidified Usyk’s status as one of the greatest boxers in modern heavyweight history.
