Ukrainian Defense Experts Join NATO’s Science and Technology Strategy for the First Time

For the first time, specialists from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense are participating in the development of NATO’s new Science and Technology Strategy . This involvement has been made possible by Ukraine’s privileged status within the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO).
The strategy serves as a foundational document outlining the Alliance’s goals, priorities, and mechanisms for implementing science and technology policy over the next six years. It also guides the activities of NATO’s Science and Technology Board.
Ukrainian experts are contributing to the project in close collaboration with STO representatives.
“The involvement of our specialists reflects the trust and interest of NATO partners in working more closely with Ukrainian defense researchers and developers,” said Volodymyr Mirnenko, Director of the Department of Military Education and Science. “Coordinated efforts will help advance the goals set out in NATO’s Science and Technology Strategy.”
Mirnenko also highlighted that building a shared base of scientific knowledge and engaging in scientific diplomacy will support Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration and interoperability with NATO.
He added that such cooperation can also enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities through joint research achievements and technological innovation.
Previously, it was reported that NATO deployed the first of three E-3A Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft to Šiauliai Air Base in Lithuania on April 23, 2025, as part of enhanced vigilance activities in the Baltic region.
