The Russian Baltic Fleet minesweeper “Aleksandr Obukhov” has been put out of service following a successful operation by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR), as reported reported on October 7.

The ship, stationed in Baltiysk and prepared for combat deployment, sustained substantial damage due to a reported “mysterious breach,” which allowed water to infiltrate the engine compartment through the exhaust system, ultimately putting it out of service.

The minesweeper is now in for major repairs, which poses a serious issue for the Russian military. The damaged engine is a rare and expensive component, and repairing such a critical piece of equipment is technically complex and costly.

“Obukhov” had just undergone maintenance in St. Petersburg in July of this year before being disabled.

This is the second Russian Baltic Fleet ship made inoperable by HUR operation in the past six months.

Earlier, Russian corvette Serpukhov was set on fire in April during a HUR operation conducted by Freedom of Russia Legion volunteer.
