Ukrainian forces have successfully destroyed a Russian Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bomber, valued at approximately $100 million, using a drone, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed on April 9.

“The Tu-22M3 landed—and our drone struck it,” Syrskyi said, highlighting the bold and precise nature of the operation.

The bomber was reportedly taken out just moments after landing, underscoring Ukraine’s growing ability to strike high-value Russian military assets far beyond the front lines.

While Syrskyi did not disclose the exact location of the strike, reports from recent days suggest that the drone attack took place at a Russian airbase, signaling an escalation in Ukraine’s capacity to target strategic infrastructure deep inside enemy territory.

The Tu-22M3, a supersonic bomber capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear payloads, has played a key role in Russia’s long-range strike campaign against Ukraine. Its destruction marks a significant tactical win for Ukraine and a costly blow to the Russian Air Force.

Earlier, A Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber crashed in Russia on April 2.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Tu-22M3 bomber crashed in the Irkutsk region. The aircraft reportedly went down in an unpopulated area, causing no damage on the ground.
