Ukrainian Duo Hladun and Lazarenko Win Historic Gold at 2025 Women’s European Beach Volleyball Championship

Ukrainian athletes Maryna Hladun and Tetiana Lazarenko have secured the gold medal at the 2025 Women’s European Beach Volleyball Championship—Ukraine’s first continental title in this discipline.
The result was reported by the European Volleyball Confederation on August 1.
Hladun and Lazarenko advanced through the tournament with three consecutive playoff wins. In the Round of 16, they defeated German players Linda Bock and Louisa Lippmann. The quarterfinal saw them prevail over the Netherlands’ Mila Konink and Raisa Schoon, followed by a semifinal win against Spain’s Daniela Álvarez Mendoza and Tania Moreno.

In the final, the Ukrainian team lost the first set 21:23, despite holding five set points. They responded by winning the second set 21:18.
The tiebreak was closely contested. At 15:14, Hladun and Lazarenko converted match point following a reception error by the French side, securing the championship.
Earlier, Ukraine’s women’s foil team reached the quarterfinals of the World Fencing Championships in Tbilisi after a confident victory over the so-called “neutral” team representing Russia.
The Ukrainian trio—Daria Myroniuk, Alina Polozyuk, and Olga Sopit—seized control of the match in the final rounds, securing a 45:36 win and knocking the Russian athletes out of the competition.
