The Ukrainian Air Force has received an upgrade for its F-16 fighter jets from the United States, aimed at improving their capability to counter Russian air defense systems. This upgrade was conducted by the 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing of the US Air Force, a unit focused on developing and adapting electronic warfare (EW) tactics.

Specialists from the 68th Electronic Warfare Squadron, part of the 350th Wing, carried out the operation, which included modernizing equipment not used by the U.S. Air Force. This likely involves the ECIPS/CJS pod that has been seen on Ukrainian aircraft. Due to tight deadlines, American engineers assessed the equipment’s capabilities and then adjusted its software to better counter Russian air defense systems.

Other NATO allies, such as the Netherlands and Denmark, whose aircraft have also been modernized, did not receive this advanced American technology. This suggests a particular focus on addressing Ukraine’s specific needs and challenges.

Furthermore, Ukrainian military personnel will share insights with the US on the practical use of these EW systems in combat, aiding in the ongoing development of these technologies for NATO. As a result, Ukrainian F-16s are now better equipped to counter Russian air defense systems, enhancing the safety and effectiveness of their operations.
