Ukrainian Fencer Olena Kravatska Eliminated From Olympics, Falls Short by One Point to Misaki Emura
On July 29, Ukraine’s Olympic fencing team took a hit as Olena Kravatska was eliminated from the women’s saber competition.
In a closely fought match against two-time world champion Misaki Emura of Japan, Kravatska ultimately fell short by a single point in the round of 16.
Despite the setback, Ukraine still has one fencer in the competition. Olga Kharlan, a seasoned veteran with an Olympic gold medal from Beijing 2008, advanced to the quarterfinals with a decisive 15-9 victory over Japan’s Shihomi Fukushima.
Kharlan’s opponent in the next round will be determined later in the day.
