Ukrainian Film “La Palisiada” to Screen at NYC Festival and Represent Ukraine at 2025 Oscars
La Palisiada, directed by Philip Sotnychenko, will be shown at the Ukrainian cultural festival Razom for Ukraine in New York on October 24. According to the film’s official Facebook page, the screening will take place at the Quad Cinema.
As announced by the film’s creators, the event will include a Q&A session with actor Yarema Malashchuk following the screening.
“Ukrainian cinema is making its mark in New York! On October 24, La Palisiada will be part of the Razom for Ukraine festival at Quad Cinema—another important step for our cinema on the international stage,” the State Film Agency of Ukraine commented.
Set in 1996, just months before the moratorium on the death penalty was lifted, the story, inspired by the aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s, explores the investigation of a colleague’s murder by a police detective and a forensic psychiatrist. The two men, once in love with the widow of the victim, find themselves entangled in a complex case and their own memories, shaping a future for their children, who will inherit their unresolved ambitions.
The Ukrainian Oscar Committee has selected the crime drama La Palisiada to represent Ukraine at the 97th Academy Awards in the “Best International Feature Film” category.
