On April 17, Ukraine’s Defense Forces announced the effective use of the American-supplied M142 HIMARS  system to strike a Russian BM-27 “Uragan”  multiple rocket launcher system.

According to Ukraine’s Ground Forces Command, the target was identified by a reconnaissance drone operated by the “Chornyi Lis” brigade. The 220 mm rocket launcher was positioned near a road and reportedly had a loaded ammunition payload.

Ukrainian forces tracked the vehicle using the drone, which also played a key role in adjusting the artillery strike. A single GMLRS rocket was launched from the HIMARS system, landing just a few meters from the launcher. Despite not being a direct hit, the blast radius was sufficient to damage the system with shrapnel.

The resulting explosion triggered a fire and the unintended detonation of the launcher’s ammunition.

Previously, it was reported that Ukraine’s 92nd Assault Brigade used “Shark” strike drones to destroy three Russian radar systems.
