In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have liberated 16 square kilometers near Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on April 17 on Facebook.

“In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian forces are halting around 30 enemy assault attempts each day, inflicting heavy losses on Russian troops,” Syrskyi wrote.

Commander-in-Chief emphasized that Russian troops are still attempting to push Ukrainian forces out of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in order to reach the administrative borders of both regions.

According to Syrskyi, Ukrainian forces have recently liberated 16 square kilometers near the settlements of Udachne, Kotlyne, and Shevchenko, not far from the city of Pokrovsk.

The Pokrovsk direction in the Donetsk region has remained one of the most active and contested areas on the frontline for months, with a heavy concentration of Russian troops.

Beyond its military significance, Pokrovsk serves as a key logistics hub for Ukraine’s eastern operations. It is also home to the country’s only domestic supplier of coking coal, a critical resource for Ukraine’s steel industry.

On April 9, Syrskyi reported that Ukrainian forces have found an effective counter to Russia’s long-range glide bombs, particularly the notorious UMPK kits used to convert conventional bombs into guided munitions.
